Travel Alert – Rex Airlines

On the 29th of July Rex Airlines suspended trading on the ASX followed by an announcement on 30th July 2024 that Rex Airlines have entered voluntary administration.

Your Policy Coverage
If you have purchased policy before 9:00 am 31st July 2024:
Your policy will provide cost associated with:
- Up to $500 per person for accommodation costs and/or travel costs for the same fare class originally booked if you your flights are delayed more than twelve (12) hours by Rex Airlines due to strikes, riot, hijack, civil protest, or severe weather conditions.
- Up to $2,000 per person for the additional cost of using alternative transport, at the same fare class as Your original itinerary, to enable You to arrive at Your destination on time to attend the function, such as a wedding, funeral or connection with a pre-paid cruise under the Special Events cover.
There is no policy coverage for any claims arising from the Financial Default of an Airline, including:
- The extra accommodation or travel cost, where Rex Airlines has cancelled or delayed flights
- The non-refundable costs for tickets on Rex Airlines flights
- The out of pocket costs of alternative travel, where Rex Airlines has cancelled flights
If you have purchased policy after 9:00 am 31st July 2024 and are yet to travel:
Given the media coverage of the high possibility of the Financial Default of Rex Airlines, it is now considered a Known Circumstance.
There is no policy coverage for any claims arising from a Known Circumstance, where a journey is:
- Delayed, or
- Abandoned, or
- Canceled
Including the additional costs for travel delay or the Special Events cover.
